Claude Beauport's Experience

Construction

Construction Management is obviously deeply connected to Project Management and also to his experience in the Power Sector.

Claude is a Civil Engineer from the University of Liège (1968). He has a career over 30 years in the field of Energy and Environment. My career covers construction of Cooling Towers, for which civil part represents 50 to 75 % in value. This is to highlight that construction remained a key point in my activities.

He started as MSc in Civil Engineering in 1970 in an Energy/Environment related Company and wide up into other disciplines. he has a multidiscipline experience. My career covers all phases: Design (including structural), Site & Project Management, marketing, Procurement, Business development, Director of subsidiary and Business Units on an international level. His activities cover acquisitions and Joint-Ventures negotiation and development.

His career is different from a typical "Project Manager", who has a projects list. He has a wider profile, in the sense that he did cover multiple projects including their Project Management.

His first project as Project & Site Manager was in 1972 building a Natural Draft Cooling Tower for ESCOM at Kriel Power Plant in South Africa, and his last involvement in covering the Project Management was in 1995-1997 for Paguthan Power Plant in Gudjarat in India (CCPP).

In fact his experience covers the various Clients and Stakeholders like Utilities, EPC Contractors, Civil Contractors, etc… He has experience in Asia Pacific region since this region was my operating region from 1989 to 1993. He remained close to that region, since he was dealing with India from 1995 to 1999.

His career did cover as well other kind of "projects" like company and fabrication acquisitions. The principles of the project management apply, and the company to be acquired dealing with project & site management, the evaluation does include the techniques.

The industry sectors he uses to cover during his career are mainly: Power, Gas & Oil, Chemical and Petrochemical Plants.

Although his recent experience is wider than Project Manager for construction in the Power sector, he remains deeply involved in all disciplines covering the subject.

Within the building sector, he also likes to highlight his expertise in the residential and office-block building. In 1974/75 (about 9 months and not mentioned in his CV, because he just interrupted his employment with Hamon during that time), he has been involved in the construction of the Military Hospital in Needer-Over-Hembeek close too Brussels (see the picture). With the exception of certain portions (like lift shafts,… ) it is a complete pre-fabricated structure.

One of his recent IM project was related to a building transformation project: transforming a Office-Block into a crib for the EC's personnel in Brussels, including special techniques like HVAC, and also used of renewable source of energy (Sun, CHP,… ).

He is also expert for 2 courts of justice in Belgium where he is nominated expert for A/C and also construction problem.

The consultancy job covers buildings. Recently he has been contracted to give support to CEGELEC-Building-Services for a project related to a Office-Blocks for a large bank in Luxemburg. His assignment consisted of presenting a energy concept to reduce CO2 emission and global costs, reconsidering 2 existing tri-generation plants (Combined Heat-Cold-Power) which were in excess and did also covered on high cost the peak (tri-gen is not suitable for peak) of the cold demand in summer. He did introduce an "Integrated Energy Management" concept.
